1.) Variety is reporting that Bret McKenzie will be playing an Elf of Rivendel named Lindir in "The Hobbit". As you may recall, the "Flight of the Conchords" star was rumored to be joining the cast about a week ago. McKenzie had a small role as an elf in "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" and "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King".
2.) Orlando Bloom has stated that he has not officially signed on to reprise his role as Legolas from "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, but that he has seen the entire script and loves it. He seems eager to join the cast, so expect him to officially sign on soon.
3.) According to The Hollywood Reporter, Andy Serkis will not only be reprising his role as Gollum in "The Hobbit", but he has also been hired by Peter Jackson to be his second unit director on the project. Serkis will be overseeing select location work on "The Hobbit" as Jackson's second unit director. Serkis hopes to direct his first feature film after wrapping "The Hobbit".
4.) Cinema Blend is reporting that young actress Saorise Ronan has not signed on to appear in "The Hobbit", but that she is hinting that she may sign on soon. She told the site, “No, I’m not actually attached. I’m not confirmed. But they are introducing new characters. I know that, a few new characters.” Ronan previously worked with Peter Jackson on "The Lovely Bones".
