Zemeckis may now be eyeing “Replay” as his live action comeback film. “Replay” was first offered to Ben Affleck to direct but he turned the project down. “Replay” does sound interesting and seems like a good fit for Zemeckis (one part “Back to the Future” and one part “Forrest Gump”). “Replay” tells the story of Jeff Winston, a man who dies of a heart attack in 1988 and then awakens in 1968 in his 18 year old body. He still remembers everything that happened to him till his death and lives out the rest of his life till 1988 when he dies yet again. Winston keeps going back in time every time he dies, but at later dates in his life. Winston soon discovers that he can’t change his death, but he can change the events in his life for the good of himself and for others.
Both Zemeckis and Affleck turned down the directing gig on the Superman reboot “Man of Steel” from producer Christopher Nolan. Zack Snyder ended up getting the gig. “Replay” sounds like it could be a very good movie and I’m sure Zemeckis would handle it beautifully.
